What is numerology compatibility?

Numerology compatibility compares two people's life path numbers, each one reduced from a birth date, and reads the pair off a single table. Every pair of numbers from 1 to 9 has one value on that table, and this page prints all 81 of them.

The tradition behind it is Pythagorean numerology, a system many people find meaningful, and none of it is evidence about two people. The table here is a 9 by 9 grid of numbers, so it is neither the 12 by 12 zodiac chart nor a birth chart. This page reads pairs: what a single life path number is supposed to say about one person on their own is not covered on this site.

How do you use the numerology compatibility calculator?

The working is the useful part. It shows how each date became a single digit, so you can follow the arithmetic rather than take the number on trust. The calculator is free, it asks for no birth time, and it runs in your browser.

How do you find your life path number?

Here is how to find your life path number, in four steps from your birth date.

1. Reduce the month to a single digit by adding its digits.
2. Reduce the day the same way.
3. Reduce the year the same way.
4. Add the three results and reduce once more. The number you end on, 1 to 9 or a master number, is the life path.

The calculator prints that working for both dates, so you can see which step gave you which digit and check the whole thing on paper. Two people with the same life path number arrived at it from completely different dates, which is worth remembering before anyone reads too much into a match.

Does the calculator reduce the master numbers 11, 22 and 33?

It keeps them, then matches them through their reduced digit. During the reduction, 11, 22 and 33 are left standing instead of being added down, which is what makes them master numbers in this tradition. The grid has nine rows, so for the lookup a master number is matched as 2, 4 or 6. The result shows both forms, 11/2, 22/4 and 33/6, so nothing is hidden behind the arithmetic.

Why do two numerology sites give different life path numbers?

Two reduction conventions are in use, and they disagree for some dates. This site uses the component method: the month, the day and the year are each reduced first, and only then added and reduced again. The other method adds every digit of the whole date in one go and reduces that total. Both are in circulation, neither is the official one, and the difference only shows up for a minority of dates. We name the one we use and print the working, so you can see which number you got and how.

How do you read the 9 x 9 numerology compatibility grid?

Find your number down the side, your partner's along the top, and read the cell where the two meet. The grid is symmetric, so it makes no difference which of you goes down the side.

Every one of those 81 cells comes from a single rule, printed in full in "How we calculate it" on this page. That's the part worth knowing, and it is the part almost no other site publishes. A grid built from one stated rule can be checked cell by cell by anyone who disagrees with it. A grid of hand-picked numbers cannot. What a cell holds is a rating of a pair under one reading of a tradition. It is not a measurement of two people, and a low cell is not a warning about anybody.

What numerology numbers go well together?

The general number harmonies in this reading are three groups of three, and numbers inside a group are treated as natural matches.

• 1, 5 and 7, read as the independent numbers.
• 2, 4 and 8, read as the practical numbers.
• 3, 6 and 9, read as the creative numbers.

Those three groups are the rule the grid is built on, which is why the highest cells in any row belong to the other two numbers in that row's group.

Do all numerologists use the 1-5-7, 2-4-8 and 3-6-9 groups?

No. One popular way to read life path pairs sorts the nine numbers into three groups, 1-5-7, 2-4-8 and 3-6-9, and treats numbers in the same group as natural matches. Not every numerologist uses it: numerology.com, for example, lists matches number by number and rates 3 with 6 as a difficult pair. Our grid uses the three-group reading and says so.

That disagreement has a visible consequence here. Our grid rates 3 with 6 among its highest cells, because the two sit in the same group, so a reader who follows numerology.com will find the opposite answer for that exact pair.

What life path numbers are good together?

The best matches by life path number, on this grid, are the other two numbers in the same group, with a number's own match scoring just under them. The lowest cells in every row are the two numbers standing either side of it on the circle of nine.

What do the master numbers 11, 22 and 33 mean in love compatibility?

In this tradition 11, 22 and 33 are the three totals that are not reduced. In a pair reading they are matched through their reduced digit: 11 with the 2s, 22 with the 4s and 33 with the 6s. That's why a result can show 11/2 on one side and a plain 2 on the other and land on the same cell. What a master number is said to mean for one person on their own is not on this site.
