What is a zodiac compatibility chart?
A zodiac compatibility chart is a table of every zodiac sign against every other, with one score in each cell, so you can read any pairing without opening twelve pages. The score is Western astrology's reading of two sun signs, turned into a number by this site's own scoring of three traditional factors. That makes a compatibility chart the whole sun-sign route to love compatibility on one page.
Numerology lays out the same idea as a 9 by 9 grid of life path numbers, and synastry lays it out as a birth chart. Neither of those is this. Start with astrology compatibility if you want the selector and the verdict for two signs in particular.
How do you read the zodiac compatibility chart?
To read the zodiac compatibility chart, find the cell where your sign and your person's sign meet. It takes four steps:
- Find your sign in the column down the left.
- Follow that row across to your person's sign along the top.
- Read the cell where the two meet. It gives that pairing's points out of 8.
- If the cell is a link, it opens the page that reads that pairing in full.
The grid is symmetric, so Aries with Leo reads exactly the same as Leo with Aries. The colour behind a cell and the legend under the grid name the band those points fall in, from strong match down to challenging.
How many pairs are in the zodiac compatibility chart?
144 cells, and 78 unique pairings. Twelve signs against twelve signs makes 144 combinations, and because the grid is symmetric every pairing appears twice, so the 144 cells resolve to 66 pairings of two different signs plus the 12 same-sign pairings. Each of the 78 has a page of its own, and a cell turns into a link on the day that page publishes.
How is each score in the zodiac compatibility chart calculated?
Each score adds up three readings the tradition already makes about two signs:
- The two signs sit a fixed distance apart on the wheel, and that distance is the aspect. A trine, four signs apart, counts for the most; a conjunction, a sextile and an opposition count for less; the other three aspects count for least.
- The elements are compared: two signs of the same element add the most, and fire with air or earth with water adds less.
- The modalities are compared: two signs of different modalities add a point, because the tradition reads two of the same modality as more of a contest.
The three add up to a rating out of 8, which is the number in the cell and the number the legend bands. A sun sign is one placement out of many, and birth chart compatibility reads the rest of them.
The most a pairing can score is the full 8. That means the rule gave it everything it had rather than that two people are a perfect match, and the tradition names no perfect pair. The points and the band edges are our own scoring of traditional readings, they are marked proposed, and an astrologer has not reviewed them yet.

Yes. A birth sign, a star sign and a sun sign are three names for one thing: the sign the Sun was in on the day you were born. A chart of them is this chart. People look for the same grid as a zodiac sign compatibility chart, an astrology sign compatibility chart, a star sign love compatibility chart and a horoscope love compatibility chart, and this page answers all of them. The Chinese zodiac has a chart of its own, built on twelve animals and birth years rather than twelve signs and birth dates.
What is a zodiac compatibility percentage?
A zodiac compatibility percentage is a sign pairing expressed out of 100, which is how several astrology sites publish this comparison. This chart does not publish one: it gives points out of 8 and a rating word, the same scale the pair pages and the selector use. Only five point totals occur across the 78 pairings, which is why the legend lists five bands. Percentages published elsewhere come from each site's own scoring. Across 24 sign-pair results checked on 21 and 22 September 2026, nine of the AI answers led on a percentage, and those figures ran from 50 to 100 for a single pairing.

How we calculate it
- The distance between the two signs on the wheel gives the aspect: the same sign, one sign apart, and so on to opposite signs. A trine scores 5, a conjunction, sextile or opposition 3, anything else 1.
- The elements are compared. The same element adds 2. Fire with air, or earth with water, adds 1.
- The modalities are compared. Different modalities add 1.
- The total, out of 8, sets the band. The points table is our proposal and is waiting for an astrologer's review.
