Libra Compatibility: Who Is Libra Compatible With?
Tradition: Western astrology. A tradition, not a forecast. Astrologers read it this way; the evidence does not.

In Western astrology, Libra is rated highest with Gemini and Aquarius (a strong match, 8 of 8 points) and lowest with Cancer and Capricorn (a challenging match, 1 of 8). The list below ranks all eleven other signs; the same-sign pair is noted under it.
Libra compatibility is one sign read against eleven others, and every pairing has a verdict page of its own. To check Libra against any other sign, open the zodiac compatibility calculator. Every row of the list below opens one of those pages. Libra and Pisces, for example, is a match that takes adjustment at 2 of 8 on our scoring, and the full reading sits on Libra and Pisces compatibility.

The same sign: Libra and Libra reads as good match, 5 of 8, a conjunction. Points: aspect up to 5, elements up to 2, modality 1. Ties keep wheel order.
The two signs at the top of that table share Libra's element, air, and sit a trine away. That is where our scoring gives the most points: 5 for the aspect, 2 for the element, 1 for the modality. The two at the bottom, on 1 point, sit a square away, an angle astrologers read as friction. In between are two sextiles on 5, one opposition on 4, and four signs on 2 where the tradition reads adjustment rather than a clash. What it means is narrower than it looks: the table is our scoring of three traditional readings, not a forecast about anybody.
What is a good match for a Libra?
The tradition's best match for Libra is Gemini and Aquarius: a strong match at 8 of 8 points, same element, trine.
Our scoring puts two signs level at the top for Libra. Nothing in the tradition separates them.
- Gemini, 8 of 8: astrologers read the trine as the easiest angle two signs can hold (same element, trine).
- Aquarius, also 8 of 8: the third air sign, reached by the same trine from the other side of the wheel (same element, trine).
- Leo, 5 of 8: sextiles read as friendly rather than effortless, and fire warms air (paired elements, sextile).
- Sagittarius, also 5 of 8: the second fire sign scoring the same way (paired elements, sextile).
Air with air and air with fire are the only element pairings the scoring rewards here. That is why the four best matches for Libra are two air signs and two fire signs.
Who are Libras not compatible with?
The lowest ratings for Libra are Cancer and Capricorn: a challenging match at 1 of 8, unpaired elements, square. A low rating is the tradition's reading of two sun signs, not a fact about two people.
The challenging matches for Libra are a tie. One aspect explains both, not two temperaments.
- Cancer, 1 of 8: a square joins two cardinal signs whose elements are not paired, which the tradition reads as friction (unpaired elements, square).
- Capricorn, also 1 of 8, the same square from the other side of the wheel (unpaired elements, square).
- Aries sits above both on 4 of 8, an opposition rather than a square, which puts it in the middle of the table.
Cancer, Capricorn and Aries are the other three cardinal signs, and a shared modality costs the modality point every time. A low rating is a reading about ease, never a verdict on two people. It reads the same whichever of the pair is the Libra.
Who is the best match for a Libra woman?
The ranking is the same for a Libra woman: Gemini and Aquarius hold the top, because our scoring takes two signs and nothing else. No gender goes into it. What the question changes is the angle. Libra is the cardinal sign of the air trio, the one the tradition reads as opening the conversation and setting the pace. That fits a Libra woman as it fits any Libra. The best love match for a Libra woman is the list above.
Who is the best match for a Libra man?
The ranking is the same for a Libra man, Gemini and Aquarius again. The scoring reads sun signs, not people. The angle that fits here is the ruling planet. Venus rules Libra, and astrologers read Venus for love style and attraction, which is why the tradition describes a Libra man through fairness and charm. Venus rules Taurus too, and Taurus still sits mid-table, so a shared ruler colours a reading and scores nothing.
How is Libra in love, friendship and marriage?
Love, friendship and marriage are the same eleven scores read three ways. The tradition looks at the element for temperament, the aspect for ease, and the modality for the long run. Nothing new is measured.
Libra in love
For love the tradition rates Libra highest with Gemini, Aquarius, Leo and Sagittarius: the 4 pairings that reach a good or strong match on the points above.
Libra in friendship
The signs that share Libra's element, air, sit in a trine (Gemini and Aquarius), which the tradition reads as the easiest company; the two sextiles (Leo and Sagittarius) read as easy and friendly.
Libra in marriage
For the long run the tradition looks at modality: Libra is a cardinal sign, so a partner of another modality scores the modality point (8 of the eleven). Libra runs September 23 to October 22 and is ruled by Venus.
What does Libra need in love?
Libra needs conversation and balance, in the tradition's reading, because Libra is an air sign, cardinal by mode, ruled by Venus. Air is read for talk and ideas, cardinal for starting things, and Venus for a preference for harmony. Those three facts are what the scoring compares, so they are also the reason the ranking runs the way it does. Love compatibility here is that comparison and nothing more.
Which signs are the best friends for Libra?
Gemini and Aquarius are the easiest company for Libra in the tradition's reading, and Leo and Sagittarius come next.
- Gemini shares Libra's element, so both signs treat talk as the default way in (trine).
- Aquarius is the third air sign, the same trine from the other side of the wheel (trine).
- Leo and Sagittarius bring fire, which the convention pairs with air, and a sextile reads as friendly (sextile).
How signs make friends in general is a wider question than this page answers.
Who does Libra usually marry?
The tradition points at Gemini and Aquarius first, then Leo and Sagittarius, the same four signs the scoring rates highest. For the long run astrologers weigh modality above element, because modality describes pace. Libra is cardinal, so a fixed or a mutable partner takes the modality point and a cardinal one does not. That is a reading about how two styles fit, not a claim about anybody's marriage, and no page here can tell anyone who to marry.
The date range above is the one most calendars use, not an exact boundary. The Sun's entry into a sign shifts by up to a day with the year and the time zone. A birthday on either edge can belong to the sign next door. Every sign has a best and a worst match in the tradition. The ranking across all twelve at once is in the best match for every sign. Libra compatibility, as this page scores it, stops at the sun sign.
How we calculate it
- The distance between the two signs on the wheel gives the aspect: the same sign, one sign apart, and so on to opposite signs. A trine scores 5, a conjunction, sextile or opposition 3, anything else 1.
- The elements are compared. The same element adds 2. Fire with air, or earth with water, adds 1.
- The modalities are compared. Different modalities add 1.
- The total, out of 8, sets the band. The points table is our proposal and is waiting for an astrologer's review.
The full rule, in plain words and in pseudocode, is on the methodology page.
