Life Path 9 and 9 Compatibility

Tradition: Pythagorean numerology. A tradition, not a forecast. Numerologists read it this way; the evidence does not.

Life path 9 and 9 are a natural match on one popular reading of Pythagorean numerology: two of the same number, in the 3-6-9 group, and the 9 x 9 grid our calculator uses gives the pair a grid score of 85%.

Life path 9 and life path 9 are the two inputs here. To open this pair in the calculator, or to try two other numbers, see 9 and 9 in the numerology compatibility calculator. If you do not know your life path numbers yet, enter two birthdays and try your birthday match; the result shows both numbers and both sun signs.

How does the 9 x 9 grid read life path 9 and 9?

One popular way to read life path pairs sorts the nine numbers into three groups, 1-5-7, 2-4-8 and 3-6-9, and treats numbers in the same group as natural matches. Not every numerologist uses it: numerology.com, for example, lists matches number by number and rates 3 with 6 as a difficult pair. Our grid uses the three-group reading and says so.

Life path 9 and life path 9 are one number on both sides, and 9 belongs to the 3-6-9 group. Our grid gives each same-number pair a single fixed value, set a little below two different numbers of the same group. The method box on this page states the rule with its figures.

The grouping is taken from Pythagorean numerology as one school practises it. Joy of Numerology calls the three sets "concords" and describes them as "harmonious". Healing Sounds calls 3, 6 and 9 the Creatives and links them with emotion, creativity and helping others. It is a popular grouping, not the only way numerologists sort the nine.

Does every numerologist rate life path 9 and 9 the same way?

Not necessarily. Numerology.com, one of the largest numerology references, leaves the three groups out and gives each life path its own list of partners. A list built number by number can agree with a group rule on one pair and part from it on the next, so a verdict here and one there are two views, not one fact. Other numerologists publish their own tables. Ours is one stated rule, and a numerologist has not yet reviewed it.

How do life path 9 and 9 do in love, marriage and friendship?

The grid answers all three from one value, since it looks at the two life path numbers and nothing more.

How does numerology read two life path 9s in love?

The grouping view reads a pair of 9s as two Creatives, sharing what Healing Sounds calls emotion, creativity and helping others. Both sides lead with the same theme. That is how one strand of numerology describes the 9, and it is a tradition many people find meaningful, not a claim about the two of you.

Can a life path 9 marry another 9?

Yes. Numerology rates pairs rather than ruling them out, and the grid's verdict for life path 9 and 9 in marriage is its verdict for love. Some numerologists add one more step for marriage: the wedding date. That step is explained in the marriage step in numerology. What happens in a marriage belongs to the two people, not to their numbers.

Can two life path 9s be good friends?

Yes. One cell covers life path 9 and 9, and the grouping view sets no separate rule for friends, so the verdict at the top applies to a friendship. For a 9 paired with a 1 instead, see life path 1 and 9 compatibility.

The calculator linked at the top of this page compares any other two numbers, or works them out from two birth dates.

How we calculate it

  1. Each birth date is added up and reduced to a life path number from 1 to 9. The master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are noted and then reduced for the table.
  2. The two life paths are looked up on a 9 by 9 grid.
  3. Every cell of that grid comes from one rule: the same number scores 85; two numbers in the same group score 95 minus how far apart they are; numbers in different groups score 71 plus that distance when they are 3 or more apart, 62 when they are 2 apart and 45 when they are 1 apart.
  4. The distance is measured the short way round the nine numbers.
  5. The grouping 1-5-7, 2-4-8 and 3-6-9 is one popular reading, not the only one, and the table is our own and has not been checked by a numerologist.

The full rule, in plain words and in pseudocode, is on the methodology page.

Questions people ask

Are life path 9 and 9 compatible?
On the grid our calculator uses, two 9s are the same number inside the popular 3-6-9 grouping, one of the three sets Joy of Numerology calls concords. The band and the grid score are in the verdict at the top of this page. Not every numerologist uses the groups: numerology.com builds its partner lists number by number. That is a tradition, not evidence about two people.
What challenges do two life path 9s face?
Our grid gives a verdict, not a list of challenges. Healing Sounds links the 3-6-9 numbers with emotion, creativity and helping others, and two 9s carry that emphasis on both sides. What the pair lacks when both lead with the same theme is the question that view raises. It is a tradition's description, not a fact about either of you.
Can a master number reduce to life path 9?
No. The calculator keeps three master numbers, 11, 22 and 33, and reads them through 2, 4 and 6. A birth date that reduces to 9 is always a plain 9 here, so no master number note applies to this pair.
